We Are All – HUMAN

Some movies have a strong impact on you. I’m not talking about horror movies that scare
you or beautiful love stories that make you cry. I’m talking about movies that shake you
up, that make you stop and reflect. You see images and hear stories that make you realise
what life can be like for others, less fortunate than you are, and how immensely lucky
you are to live an easy, secure, well nourished life.
HUMAN is such a movie. It is directed by the French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand,
and it is “a collection of stories about and images of our world, offering an immersion
to the core of what it means to be human. Through these stories full of love and happiness,
as well as hatred and violence, HUMAN brings us face to face with the Other, making us
reflect on our lives.”
A week ago, I watched it with some friends and afterwards nobody could speak a word.
HUMAN followed me the days to come, and yesterday we watched two documentaries,
giving us more background about the How and the Why.
It is so important to give humanity individual faces. We can’t just talk about “refugees”, “fundamentalists”, “gay people”, or “jews” – every single person is unique and yet:
we are all the same.
You can read more about HUMAN here. If you don’t have the possibility to see it at the movies, watch it at YouTube. Here a link to the trailer.
